MS Auto Update, poor performance

I don't have a dual core, therefore when MS Auto update is turned on things run really slowly.

Is there a patch to improve upon this?

There was a problem with svchost two updates ago, should be fixed now.

was maxing out all CPU's

do a manual update, see if it fixes it.
