Just wondering what these are like? Im in the market for a new laptop or tablet, normally id go for a MBP, but I've had a 4year old MBP die on me recently, I've heard quite a lot of tales of GFX card failures on previous gen MBPs and I find more and more of my time is spent in Windows anyway.

Ive noticed the MS Surface Pro 3 seems a nice spec for the money and it appears we aren't far away from a new model being released, has anyone got a Surface Pro 3 and how do you find it?

Im mainly needing something for watching TV and Movies on whilst travelling, generally office type applications, and probably most demandingly 2D and 3D CAD work.

I have a surface pro 3 and it is a mixed bag. It is great for sitting at a desk and using to work with. The pen is also great if you think you will make use of it. I also love it for just sitting on my bedside table (with no keyboard) for listening to music or watching a movie.

The down sides are:
It is not the most comfortable to use on your lap as the folding keyboard is floppy and the kick stand cuts into your legs a bit. It is easier to use on the lap than the SP1 or 2 but still no macbook air.
The speakers are average at best
It is quite cumbersome to use as a tablet due to its size and ergonomics.

Hope this helps a little and if you have any questions please ask

I love my SP3. I stream steam and XB1 games to it and the screen size is excellent for movies and reading on it. Being MS its a nice companion device for the main pc as well. They are pricey to be fair but its worth the money so I went for the i7/250gb ssd

I also have a SP3, which I use as my main non-work machine. As above, I went for the i7/256GB version, as I felt that offered best overall package.
Really like it, great piece of kit, and serves as my day-to-day device - actually might well start to use as my regular work machine in the near future, too, but ClientCo systems don't yet support Win10......

I've built a few of them for the bigwigs at my company, who ordered top-spec SP3's. They're actually very nice, really good quality machines. Helluva expensive for what they are though.

Cheers for the replies folk, had a play with a SP3 and do like it, but I don't think i bring myself to spend that much on one, it would have to be the top model, and also id have to wait for the SP4... and then the price is going to be ~£1700 with keyboard case etc and for that kind of money I could instead buy a pretty damn epic Windows Laptop... I think ill wait for launch of the SP4 and see if there is really any good reason for it over something like a GIGABYTE P35X v4-CF2 or CF1

Dell Venue Pro 11 7140? Just picked up a model with 4gb of RAM and 128gb SSD.

Refurbished however you can not tell the difference.

I bought the surface pro3 last year (i5/8gb/256Gb) version, simply because I am travelling around and wanted something much lighter than a laptop, but with the full windows experience.

To be honest I've found it really really good, it performs everything I want to do - except maybe Battlefield 4 ;). Yes it can sometimes get a little hot but I've not experienced the super heat issues some people had. That also influenced me not getting the i7 version.

It's an expensive buy, but for me I chose it because of the portability and it was a balanced trade off between a full size laptop and a tablet.

This is something im toying with atm. The surface pro 4 wont be as cheap as the current 3 for about another year. Also the IGP is only handy for games, the current one is more than powerful enough.

At current its Surface 3 vs Xps 13.
