I dunno MS is evolving and they need to adapt to survive ultimately, these days they would be better off with an agressive pricing model and getting people to pay smaller amounts more regularly (but not too regularly) than huge upfront prices that either tends to result in people wringing every last drop out of the software for 10+ years or pirating it. Theres a good reason why Windows 7 at ~£45 was such a success relatively.
The £15 or £25 copies of Windows 8 were probably even more successful, it's a shame that they hiked the price up so much afterwards.
