A rumor swirling about the bowels of the Internets says that Microsoft is about to launch a takeover bid for Swiss-based Logitech. If true, Microsoft, the largest software house in the world would become the world's largest maker of webcams, mice and other peripheral devices. Share prices are surging on speculation that Microsoft will make a takeover bid valued at 48 francs per share, a 38% premium over yesterday's closing price. Our take? We're pretty skeptical. Both companies have been extraordinarily successful without each other. And at first take, the union seems to offer neither company any advantage in the market. Perhaps the rumor mill confused Logitech with Japan's Logitec -- that would make perfect sense. Yeah.

I hope it happens so we could have the g25 wheel working on the 360 as well as the ps3.
 
Wow, I'm not sure weather to be worried or happy about that. Logitech are kings of the ratter world from my pov.
 
wasnt this review floating around in the summer? I seem to have heard something similar that MS were looking at buying a peripheral manufacturer
 
I for one would love it to happen imagine forz2 using a g25 wheel.
I have a ps3 and the g25 wheel and its amazing playing prologue with the wheel.
I bought the ms wheel and returned it and got a refund as for the price i thought it was rubbish.
The g25 is expensive but its quality kit and worth every penny if you are into race games.
 
I hope that whatever regulatory bodies exist in Switzerland stop this merger before it even comes close to happening. We already have to suffer a MS monopoly with desktop operating systems we don't want one with hardware peripherals too thank you very much :(
 
Not good. Microsoft buying Logitech for one reason: money.

Everything that are doing well, seemed to be gobbled up by Microsoft! Microsoft should be focusing on improving their softwares and services instead!
 
I would hope MS don't, mainly becaue Logitech at the moment have a wonderful CS department and make some really great mice/keyboards.

However I can see the business reasoning behind such a takeover by MS, as it would no doubt allow MS some very large cost savings in the peripherals for the xbox etc if they were able to negotiate rates on the same scale Logitech can (not to mention Logitech own some IP that would benefit MS).
 
Microsoft should acctually buy their own instead of taking over a company. There won't be much competition if they do take over Logitech. Less competition = can charge WTF they like. I say damn Microsoft if they do!

franky rubbish thing to say, with the backing it can only be a great move both for MS and logi..

And imagine the size of the yacht that the logitechs current owner could buy I say go for it..
