As expected really but they are clueless & do not have a clue :( Basically keeping their Xbox One exclusives & want to push Kinect 2.0 onto the PC at some time (Stealth DRM device). The only worry for PC gaming is if a lot of these exclusives do not appear PC gaming will not have many DX11 only big budget games in future as the cost to make these is ridiculous so only the big publishers can afford it :(

You can’t see my face right now, but it’s contorted into an expression of bemused bewilderment. That’s because of an interview by ShackNews with the excellently named Matt Booty, Microsoft’s “general manager of Redmond Game Studios and Platforms”. In it, he distances the company’s Windows game strategy away from the perception of the “more traditional desktop PC game,” heavily suggesting that the majority of the Xbox One’s “15 exclusives” won’t be arriving on Microsoft’s other platform.

To be clear, the source of my confusion isn’t the idea that Microsoft doesn’t care about the PC as a viable core gaming platform – that’s been a known factor since their focus shifted to the consoles. Instead, it’s the outright bizarre detachment from reality shown in many of Booty’s statements. When asked if PC gamers would see any of their planned exclusives, he said, “the Windows 8 gamer is certainly going to participate in some of that content.”

When pressed on the type of “content” that Windows 8 gamers would “participate” in, Booty added, “we have got everything from very, very casual games, like our very much improved and reimagined Solitaire, all the way to graphically complicated games like The Harvest.”

Asked whether, in light of this, Microsoft were focusing on the lower-end, rather than AAA PC production, Booty responded, “We’re talking about console games, but there could be some franchises that also end up with a PC game.” As if there’s any difference in this age of x86 architecture, universal control pad support, and even Steam Big Picture mode. “When I think about more connected experiences across those platforms,” he continued, “it’s things that show up within that family of devices where we’ve got Xbox Live, like Windows Phone and Windows 8,” and “not what you might consider a more traditional desktop PC game.”

While the internet took cover from the barrage of Xbox One announcement news yesterday, some pertinent details for us PC gamers slowly rose to the surface of the TV-TV-Sports-Dog news conference. Among them were the release date for Battlefield 4, what the Xbox One might mean for PC gamers, and the hint that the Kinect 2.0 will eventually be available for Windows.

Via Polygon, Microsoft’s Ben Kilgore confirmed that Kinect support will be released on Windows “at some point down the line.” Since the new Kinect sensor will be shipping as a part of the Xbox One retail unit, will there be a standalone Kinect offering? Or will we have to shell out for the full Xbox One to get access to a Kinect for Windows gameplay? We don’t know.

The implications of a Windows-connected Kinect are intriguing, but not groundbreaking. Windows drivers were created independently not long after the first Kinect sensor released, and its usefulness is questionable—how will a desktop Kinect read players sitting about two feet away, as opposed to reading players sitting across the living room? Meanwhile, LeapMotion is working on desktop motion control that tracks hands in close proximity.

Basically GFWL sucked and everybody* hated it - so instead of fixing it, the toys went out of the pram and we get the OS ruined in the name of selling tablets and phones and gaming development cut.

"You WILL accept our DRM or else".

And people say EA behave like children.

Sigh why dont they just turn the store app on windows 8 into a steam competitor and drive better prices for all? Intergrate GFWL rubbish into it and basically disolve it, but retain the useful stuff. I dont see why these large corporations want to try and destroy the PC gaming market, when consoles are becomming more and more like PCs every single time they get a refresh!

Stick the "xbox exclusives" as "microsoft exclusives" and stick them on the windows operating system as well with a high res texture pack to keep us happy, that way we could enjoy games like the halo series and gears of war to name a few, whilst still giving microsoft and the developer a sale with profit on it.

No one who owns a PC will want to use a kinect controller as its utterly pointless. I want to see proper cross platform support where I can start playing a game on a PC and then send over the save to an xbox one to continue playing it in a different room if the PC is needed by another family member etc.

Annoys me so much that products for GAMERS aren't made by GAMERS. Razer has the right idea with their products as they look at what people who play games actually want and put everything else as a secondary consideration.

I'm fine with DRM though as I've lived under it since steam began. When its done right, it works great and doesn't impeed on the users enjoyment of the products, which is what it should set out to do in the first place.
