msahci and pciide ? ? ?

ive just ran the AS SSD benchmark tool and had my intel x25 v 40gig drive benched.
a lot of my scores are higher for write than they are read.
ive scanned through the thread an noticed that someone with another intel drive
has mentioned changing from pciide to msahci has made a huge difference and completely altered the read / write results.
i too have pciide selected for my drive.
what is msahci ? and if it makes this much of a difference how do i get it ?
im sorry but i know nada about this sort of stuff, so any info would be very much appreciated
 
Typically if you enter the bios screen for your motherboard you will have different settings you can assign to your sata ports. Quite often these are ide (or compatibility mode), ahci or raid (if your motherboard includes raid functionality). I don't think changing the mode means you HAVE to reinstall the os unless you do not have the ahci drivers installed,in which case your machine will be unbootable.
 
hmm sound like i could **** things up
so at the mo my cable is sat in sata1 post on the mobo, would i just reconnect that into the raid port ? providing i have achi drivers ?
sorry but what are achi drivers and were do i get them ??

Normally you will have a drivers disk with your motherboard or you can go to the chipset vendor for the sata ports e.g. intel, amd, nvidia or jmicron (depending on motherboard and port used). Download the ahci drivers for your os and install. Then reboot your machine and the enter the bios. Change the sata mode to ahci (if you have different controllers e.g. 6 ports intel 2 ports jmicron make sure you change the relevant controller)
save and exit. If you have changed the correct controller and have the corresponding drivers installed you should be all good. If your machine will not boot you should be able to boot back to bios and change back to ide.
 
You need to modify your registry first if you want to switch between IDE and AHCI modes, if you try changing it without modifying the reg your system will just continuously BSOD everytime it tried to boot into Windows.
 
You would really benefit from changing the registry to allow achi mode. Then change in bios. That will be the only way to get the true pace of these Intel SSD drive.

Just benched mine and it scored 301 and I do have the same drive as you.
 
why would my write speeds bench faster then my read speed tho ?

As said above you will benefit by moving to AHCI mode.
All you have to do is modify a line in the registry to allow windows to accept the drivers for ahci mode, and alter the setting in the bios from IDE to AHCI

Theres a Microsoft guide to altering the registry HERE ( just scroll down to the resolution part and follow that )
Once thats done reboot and go straight into the bios and change to AHCI mode.
Its pretty easy :)

dont that and my scores have shot up, all bar the 4k test thats still the same, i have no idea what the scores mean tho lol.

does it matter what sata port i have the ssd plugged into ?
its currently in port 6
 
is port 6 a intel controller ? If so it wont matter too much at all. Also make sure that



Enable write policy is also enable ( ticked)
 
I would recomend giving a try and compare the benchmark scores. If it is lower put back as it was but if higher I would leave as it is.
 
im not so cerncerned about the scores anymore, its the bootup and shutdown im more concerned about baron.
what do you boot up in time wise ? im getting a staggering 43 secs ? ?

its asif it spends most of the time on the asus splash screen right after you start it, it must show that pics for 10 secs or more
