Just installed vista X64 again the other day, still playing around to get things as I want. Just trying to speed up boot-up time, will I be ok with disabling all of the ticked apart from

Audio
NOD
OS
Catalyst CC

Btw anyone know what Realtek voice manager is?

Keep the ESET Security obviously.

Everything else could probably be removed (WHat's the Microsoft WIndows Opera...?).

Some of them services are tiny and will take next to no resources.

Having no Sound Control Interface etc to save a few MB of Memory.

You are better turning of a lot of stuff in Control Panel > Admin Tools and choose Services.

Never touched anything in services. Can you give me abit more info on them?

Of the top of my head not a lot.

1) Kill Windows Search (Indexing). If you don't mind Searches taking a few secs longer.

2) Windows Media Player Networking Sharing Service. If you don't network it.

3) Webclient. Unless you run one from your home PC.

4) Windows Defender.

5) Volume Shadow Copy (System Restore), Have a back up if you do this or take risk.

6) Windows Error Reporting Service.

7) Offline Files.

Some of the above can be disabled from other places using the GUI but the actual service can still run or be allowed to run unless you set to Disable.

There is also other aspects you can Kill like 1 or 2 services that run for WMP as soon as Vista boots up that are not needed but you need remove them in the Windows Registry (I cannot remember offhand what though) but they are visible in your Task Manager and 1 of them is a Glitch that MS is said to fix someday.

What way are you getting to them ?, Simply go into Services and you full screen it and you can see a big list from A-Z, Double Click (faster than Right Click and choosing Properties) on any of them you want to change.

Stop the service if running, then drop down box to Disabled.

There are many more like Tablet PC Input Service (I don't/never will own one) but you loose the handy Vista Snipping Tool along with that.

Good idea is to take screenshots of your services screen as you go so if you do disable something and it causes you problems you have a point of reference.

This site is very helpful for vista explaining exactly what things do and whether you need them.
I managed to get mine down to 18 running processes, 14 on xp pro.
a lot of things you may think you need to be on automatic can infact be set to manual such as creative services ati/nvidia services.
Once i have it all down to as much as I can go and still function my pc with everything I need i take a screeny so when I reformat i just glance at that and repeat.
