MSI 26.5" MPG 272URX QD-OLED 240Hz 26.5" 4K Monitor

Looks like the Asus is the better choice for the total package.

Yeah maybe just about but not much in it. I think the differences were:

- impressions of built quality (ASUS a little more tank like)
- slightly more HDR modes
- more anti-flicker settings
- the proximity sensor / screen off, which tbh is probably the main thing?

Otherwise they seems the same - great performance. He went on to say that the difference in features is maybe worth $100 dollars on paper and… guess what, it’s £100 difference in the UK. So I think the lower price you will have orders at offsets it nicely :)

Interesting also to be reminded that these monitors are at the same price in the US and the 32” MSI is much cheaper over there, so this 27” MSI is being judged on that basis. Whereas over here, the MSIs are not the cheapest brand, so it’s a different comparison and, indeed, this is the cheaper model of the 2 in the UK right now.

I’m dead keen to see how you get on, especially with that 5090  really interested to see how some ‘real people’ get on with MFG.

Also msi does look good but seems it's a 3rd gen panel vs asus is 4th gen, also don't really like the msi logo and bezels. For resaleability and the extra features surely for an extra £90 the asus is the winner.

I remember the old days where I paid £1500 for an acer x27. The worst was the pg32uqx which was a lcd monitor for £3299. Nuts.

I think on hardware unbound review it said it was a 3rd gen panel and Asus marketing says 4th gen, probably not much difference anyhow..

I just rewatched. It IS the exact same panel, but ASUS is choosing to market it as 4th gen. MSI is sticking with 3rd gen, which is probably more accurate.

The real 4th gen will be when the subpixel structure changes, IIRC. With these, it’s just a higher PPI, AFAIK.

Zero difference. It’s the exact same amount panel, it’s just how each is marketing the screen and panel. Technically, and officially, Samsung Display don’t refer to this new panel as gen 4, they’d rather refer to it as “2025 QD-OLED”, but I think gen 4 still make sense given new technology. Got a video coming on this topic very soon

But anyway, it’s the same panel

would have taken pics of the screen but too glossy you'll just see me, with bedroom daylight :D my biggest complaint short power cable!

Have you got a 5000 series for it?
What games you going to play??

Honestly mainly for work with Topaz + main desktop monitor for general browsing and boredom and Plex :D but I'll see how I get along with it, and see if I feel a distinct difference in latency or not, between this and my other monitor. If I do, won't be gaming on it really, except for games where it's maxing out the display natively.

Very jelly - get some games on the go!!!

I've just been comparing with my WOLED monitor, massive difference in text clarity even with 150% scaling, Will need to reconfigure my room a bit though as I definitely want to use this as the primary monitor now.

Brighter/Sharper + All the preventative features you can turn on and off, really liking it!

Dolby Vision on the Asus will be a dub for watching supported content on it also.

Currently leaving it on True Black 400 instead of HDR 100 as it can get brighter for HDR content.

But I will mostly use it in SDR (Adobe RGB and Display P3 are nicer than sRGB for me)

Oh just to add 100% scaling is not the way to go with my glasses on, I can notice my sensitivity to the colours fringing when shifting what I focus on. (Don't get this on my 1440p Display, probably just a QD OLED thing)

Yeah from what I gather with the text fringing, the most important thing is the PPI but otherwise the WOLEDs are slightly superior.

There are some RGB floor standing lights you can get from the usual places that are quite cheap, if you fancied a ‘glow’ from behind your monitor sort of thing. I think that’s what I’m going for (or desktop lighting for the same effect).

Might need it, thanks for the suggestion.

But yeah 150% scaling or avoid if you're like me and need glasses on, perhaps less of an issue if you don't need them.

I've been comparing again, and yeah I'm sensitive to the colour fringing on this QD OLED I guess, where as I don't experience it at all, on the WOLED.

Not a deal breaker for me, but will be for others I think.

I turned off all protective features I could (pixel shifting will only go to low) so wondering if that may be the culprit (I'll also update my firmware now) in case that's the reason

Hmm interesting! Is it bothering you in games / other content?

HWU and @Baddass seemed to suggest that the fringing wasn’t so annoying at this PPI, but I suppose it depends on what you’re used to.
