Msi 290x or 970 GTX infinity

Wait for the 380 etc if you can but if you cannot
From what I have read the galax will be quieter and performance about equal but the gimped memory of the 970 might cause issues when running at 1440.
At the time I was making my choice the memory 'issues' of the 970 were not known & I was sorley tempted by the 970 but in the end went for (2x) 290 - why? in summary, best bang for buck and noise was not going to be an issue as it is the intention to watrercool.
Have found the card quiet with the standard fan (the dd by xfx) and have read that if not all ,nearly all, non-ref fans are quite quiet. - Problem is that noisy is very subjective and therefore only thing I can recomend is , if you can , try before you buy.
The 970 is much more power efficient which is a big + it in its favour - I would probably have been able to run 2 x 970 on my existing psu whereas the 290's requiered a new 1000w psu.
If I were facing making the decision today I would wait for the new gpu's that are due from AMD - hopefully at least as powerful and as power efficent as the nvidia equivalent and not too pricy.
If I had to buy now then I'd go for the 290X - primarilly because I wonder how much more of a problem the narrow bus and memory gimping of the 970 will prove to be with later games.

290x. If your worried about noise go for lightning, vapourx or pcs.

The Gigabyte G1 970 I had was amazingly cool and quiet for me and I see with cards like the MSI, Asus etc the fans don't even spin until they get stressed. Just avoid the cheapest Galax with the old plastic 680 blower cooler or you may as well get a 290X. The Infinity black looks the business.

id go with the 290x... at least you get the full 4gb xD
and what delay? *product that actually hasn't officially been announced can't actually be delayed* Time from for 390 has always been Q2; most have guessed June; 380 is rumored this month.....

Go for the 290X like a windforce ,vapor-x or a MSI gaming edition for silent gaming.
