MSI 7850 question

I removed the driver and device and rebooted and reinstalled latest drivers and now its back to clocking down again. I won't bother resetting to default again.

I am pretty sure i notice some negative performance when watching videos compared to my 3850 and i am sure its the way it goes up adn down like that. If i skip in a 1080 video through the video it jumps to full clock speeds and then after 5 seconds the voltage and the clock speeds all change again. This happens every time i skip. If i skip while it is still at full clock speed then it is smooth change, but when i skip at low clock speed it has a graphics lag. not sure what the point of saving power is? is some bs eco environmental non sense or is it for any actual good reason? I should add at full clock speed the fan barely increases in speed and is still not audible.

I have been reading forums about this ati power play bs and it appears you can edit the xml file in appdata and set the idle clock speeds to full speed.

has anyone done this ?

edit: oh and i was wrong about flash update fixing the problem. Problem still exists, so i spent £150 on a card that only works at full speed in certain circumstances. Talk about a step backwards. I tried running 3d modelling in photoshop and again it does not load full core speeds and performance sucks. This is where all these god damn benchmarks become a liability and everyone is so obsessed with all these comparison charts that they never do any real world tests and if they did they would realize this core clock restriction bs is a terrible terrible idea. I am realy ****ed off. :(

I called up AMD tech support too see if they could advise on to set idle clock speeds to full speed and they were useless. They even suggested disabling flash 3d acceleration as a fix. Right so spend £150 so i can DISABLE the 3d acceleration ? :(

In some ways it is like a car manufacture saying that they have made a new car that has realy low petrol usage per mile but when you buy it you realize that it is restricted to 20 mile an hour.

I feel your pain, the new Nvidia cards are in a similar boat, what amazes me is how few others notice this stuff.....too busy playing benchmarks maybe :D

If it was Nvidia I could give you a work around, does a bios editor exist for the 7 series ? you could fix it properly then ;)

I did not want to make a new thread.

I have this problem in quake live where the chat text and some of the textures on the models are black and flicker. I have not seen this in other games. I have played bf3 and d3 without noticing any issues. Do you think this is a quake live problem or anyone had any thing similar in the past and could offer some pointers?

I am currently using the beta 12.11 beta 6 drivers. I have made a thread on qlive forums but no help so far.

I play quake live with a 7950 from MSI, I also get the chat text has like black lines going through it, a bit strange but doesn't bug me.

Using 12.11 beta 5.
