I updated the BIOS of my MSI z68-GD65a(g3) motherboard using liveupdate and it wrote it all successfully then shutdown as part of the procedure ....

When it rebooted it failed to load windows (a quick bsod).
it wont load windows normally...

It gave me the option when it rebotted again to repair windows so I tried that, so it went into a diagnostic scan screen but then the screen went black - the signal is still getting to the monitor though as there is a blue led to say its on.

So....wondering what to now?? What has caused this bsod? Also, what do you recommend I do now?

I understand this motherboard has some kind of fail safe 2nd BIOS to reflash itself.....

should I just repair windows using the windows disc or try and reflash my motherboard?

erm... it's because the motherboard reverted to SATA IDE when I had it on the alternative setting

AHCI or whatever it is....

Momentary panic there... seems to be fine now.....

btw MSI u should really make this default to the previous HDD settings to stop people pannicing, if this is possible.

I have the same motherboard and panicked when I updated my bios and got a blue screen :D

I'm wondering if your motherboard sometimes hangs on boot and restart. On mine I get a blank screen with some numbers in the bottom right and then it displays the marvell boot thing and then finally loads windows. Sometimes it can boot in 20 seconds and other times it will hang for upto 5 minutes to the point where resetting the bios is the only thing that works.

I'm starting to think I need to do an rma but would like to know if others have the same problems.

Thanks
Dan

If you're going to post links then use links we can actually see without joining the forum.

Or just post the relevant information.
Anyone with an MSI motherboard should join it really, as it's the official MSI forums with lots of useful infomation.

If people can't be arrsed to join it and don't care about trashing their BIOS chips, well thats upto them I suppose, plus it has all the latest BETA BIOS on there that can only be accessed with forum membership.

So what's wrong with the M-Flash utility then?
I've used the M-Flash utility a few times before when I bought the motherboard in July and had no problems with it, when I mentioned this in those forums, the moderators went off their rockers, saying it's bad.

When I had my previous Gigabyte boards I used their inbuilt M-Flash utility with no problems either.

But the Admins/Mods are adament that its far riskier to use than the USB Flashing Tool.

The MSI Liveupdate through Windows is definitly a no no though, I've messed up an Asus motherboard doing it through Windows a number of years ago.

The report says:

MSIHQ: Information detected by MSIHQ Tool ver: 1.19R9
MSIHQ: Report generated in 27/11/2011 at 2:10:48.95
*********************************
Mainboard: Z68A-GD65 (MS-7681)
PCB Version: 4.0
BIOS Version: VN.4B7 (aka Version: V23.4B7)
BIOS Date: 16/11/2011
*********************************

Which I guess is all present and correct. The PC is working so I will see how it goes with the previous slow booting over the next few days. I was wondering if it was caused by my Steelseries keyboard.

I have joined the forum. I was wondering if you can tell me where I will find the latest bios updates as and when they are released. I found the post saying about the latest bios but no download links.

Thanks for your help
