I bought a pre owned gaming pc yesterday, i can get a signal to my tv if i connect it directly to my tv however not via my AVR using hdmi. I was doing this for years with my old Nuc6 but this gfx card just wont work.

The gfx card is a Msi mech 5600 xt oc, Avr is Pioneer sclx58, tv Samsung Qn94a. The gfx card is Hdmi 2.0b so could this be the problem as my AVR is 2.0.

Oh and i recently upgraded my hdmi cables to the amazon basics high speed cables.

So guys do you have any idea what my problem could be?

Can't say i know of the solution, but i'd go through the standard process of elimination myself. Try both cables independently, check correct in/out ports on AVR, check correct channel chosen on AVR, check AVR's manual for supported resolutions and refresh rates, and match those in on Display Settings in Windows. Freesync and VRR might need turning off also.

Ask a mod to move to AV forum if no other responses as might be better suited in there.

Thanks for your reply mate. You have made some good practical suggestions and i shall give them a try tomorrow and see how i get on. I will post back with how i get on. ;)

If you've done the firmware updates the SCL58 should have 4k60 support, you just need to switch the HDMI mode:

Turn off the reciever and while holding the enter button, turn it on and you get the setup menu - you should be able to find the HDMI output mode switch, I have a feeling you have to turn Multizone off for it to work!

I had a 6600xt that I have to return it would only work with 1 of the 3 monitors in my house.
When I Googled it, it was a common problem

Sorry to hear about this terrible issue. Lets hope i dont have that problem;)

Thanks for your reply. Yes the previous owner had updated the firmware to support 4k and Atmos. That multi zone has caught me out before as has the speakers A - B button.

With all the messing about it seems to be working now but i have just discovered it does not support HDR as its only Hdmi 2.0 on my Avr. Is it possible to send the audio to my AVR and the video directly to my tv as it supports HDR but my tv does not support all the high quality surround formats. ;)

Card into TV -> HDMI 3 to receiver via eARC should do this :)

I've read on here on here that you can feed just audio via hdmi via some playing about. So two hdmi out or DP and hdmi cables to TV and the AVRAVR. It sounds messy which is why i never tried it.

You need to setup two screens in Windows while only having the one. The 2nd screen just goes to the AVR, and you need to put the additional windowed screen out of view on the desktop. So essentially a Picture in Picture setup, if that makes sense.

I'm not highly knowledgeable on the subject, but do any games do lossless sound?

Thats the problem if they dont support eARC - But saying that Mine does support eARC but wont pass through full fat atmos etc - only the atmos / trueHD tracks from built in apps such as disney plus - If i am using Jellyfin / plex, it wont play full HD atmos tracks from the TV to the Amp - eARC isnt as usefull as its made out to be (for my use anyway)

The built in apps like Disney+, Netflix do not support or playback TrueHD (lossless audio).

The Atmos being played on these apps is just an extension of Dolby Digital+ (lossy audio)

ARC can deal with lossy audio but you should have eARC on both your TV and AVR to deal with TrueHD (with or without Atmos) seamlessly.

Worth noting that the apps (such as plex / jellyfin etc) have to support it (lossless), i'm rather disappointed my Sony version of the apps doesnt, even with eARC on the TV and on my Yamaha Aventage - Only thing I can get is DD+ "lossy" Atmos from Disney plus / netflix. Think the LG C2 will be getting purchased shortly!

As far as I'm aware there is no TV that supports TrueHD passthrough from TV based apps, including the LG C2. You have to use something like a Nvidia Shield Pro to do that.

Also you might be aware that playing anything through a LG C2 it will then not play any kind of DTS audio, either internally or passthrough.

I've read on avforums that plex / jellyfin (90% of my stuff is played on JF) do pass truehd on the LG app... But alas, all I do if I want it is use my PC to play any media with truehd via MPC and MadVr plus numerous codecs, works fine for me! - will probably get the C2 for 120hz anyway!
