I am looking to replace my Northbridge chipset fan as its very loud! A passive cooler, heat-pipe or similar would be great. but anything that means its a lot quieter is great!

One huge snag though - there is no room at all, as you can see from the photo below. The graphics card sit just above the Northbridge cooler and is kinda blocking it. I can imagine some of the passive coolers like the Zalman won't fit due to the card so I am looking for an alternative. Has anyone replaced their Northbridge on this mobo, or have any ideas on what I can use to replace it?

I just disabled the fan. No harmful side effects as of yet, thats not to say that problems wont arise in the future. It really was annoyingly loud though :)

From the link above, it appears that the Zalman will fit if you do a DIY job with a set of tin snips or a Dremel :)

Ok, thanks for that. I am not overly keen on disabaling the Northbridge fan as it must be there for some reason!

I am also thinking that with a bit of a modification to the graphics card that I can fit it all in. I was looking at some small Zalman heatsinks for the RAM chips, but I have yet to find a cooler that will fit onto my X800XL card - I just can't seem to find them, though they must be out there somewhere.

The zalmon VF900 fits great, put one on mine earlier, much quieter, looks better, and performs much better. just shy of getting past 6000 3d05 marks now :)
