MSI MEG X570 UNIFY or wait for the X570 Tomahawk?

Hi all,

I've currently got my new build ready to go apart from the motherboard. I've been waiting for the x570 Tomahawk but there are no signs of it appearing.

Would I be silly to get the x570 Unify instead? Is it still the better board? Or should I just be patient and wait?

Thanks!

What CPU you have?
If only 8 core there's no sense in very expensive boards and even Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite already has overkill VRM for 12/16 core.

I have the 3600X, but I'm planning to upgrade to the 4700x or equivalent when they arrive.

MSI B450 Tomahawk (or Carbon if needing Wifi) is perfect for those.
With working case cooling it would do decently well also with 12/16 core.

Luxury priced boards won't make base/mid level CPUs any faster/last longer and you would be just throwing money into wind.
In few years heavier games can give 12 core good workout.
Without SMT most cores would be already fully occupied in Star Citizen:

Okay thank you for your knowledge. Do you recommend the MSI B450 Tomahawk over the X570 Tomahawk then?

I've literally just had to make the same decision.

Got a 3700x. Initially I was looking at Aorus Gaming, then i realised i should look for something with better cooling. so looked at the elite but no wifi on that board. i was looking at youtube and found the unify. After all the bad boards they'd brought out, all the reviews for this one said it was pretty damn good for cooling. Plus it has onboard wifi6 and all the extra features like pcie4 and usb-c gen 2 and a great on board audio chipset. At £275 it just made sense to me.

i think MSI were keen to bring back trust in the market with this one (and the Toma) so they went all out overkill plus made the price right.

The Unify is the same as the ACE without the heatpipe and infinity mirror LEDs etc, just a couple of things cut short here and there, gold accents etc, I love my X570 ACE and have no issues with VRMs, ive never seen them go over 60oC with a 3900X running Prime 95 or IBT AVX.

No sense to spend for more than B450 Tomahawk/Carbon for only 8 cores.
With working case cooling those would do decently well with 12/16 cores.
(at least in games not putting all cores under 100% AVX load)
