You can run an nvidia card on a "crossfire motherboard" but you cant run sli.

You will need an sli board to run sli. Many boards in the p55 range support sli. Just go over them and their features to see which one suits your friends requirements.

You really need to go to the manufacturer's site and look at the full specs to see if 'proper' x8/x8 x-fire and sli are supported. Many boards that claim x-fire support only support 'crippled' x16/x4 x-fire, and these boards almost always dont support sli at all. That P55A-G55 doesn't support sli, but this one does...

...and is the cheapest sli P55 mobo I've seen. No USB3/SATA3 though, but you can always add a card for that later.

according to the official MSI test reports this board has been tested successfully for SLI ;) it just doesn't say so in the spec, probably because Nvidia haven't been paid to certify it

I've been looking at this board and for the money looks good, can anyone confirm if sli works on it? Seems to be quite a few different statements about it

The P55-GD55 doesn't support SLI and doesn't 'properly' support x-fire as it can only run its slots at 16x/4x. MSI website used to say 'Y' against SLI in the specs but that has since been corrected. That was probably the cause of any confusion there may have been, but it seems pretty clear now - no SLI or proper x-fire. Minimum is the GD65 for 8x/8x x-fire and SLI support.

Sorry I'm thinking too far back to the P55-GD55 (no A) - the older board with no USB3/SATA3. Yeah the specs for the P55A do say 8x/8x but dont mention SLI and says 'N/A' in the spec for SLI - so seems ambiguous as usually a board that can do 8x/8x also supports SLI.

These people saying it does - are they actually owners and running SLI on them? If so it's a good bet it works OK I suppose. Maybe it really is a matter of not wanting to pay Nvidia for the SLI sticker, but seems strange as they have it on other boards that do SLI. I really dont understand the confusion with this board????

Maybe suck it and see if you really can't pay the extra for a '65 board to be sure.

Its not really to do with not being able to pay the extra, just the curiosity more than anything,
