MSI Radeon 290 Memory Speed Confusion

5000 MHz is an effective bandwidth from the GDDR5 memory at a stock speed of 1250 MHz. It is just another way of representing it. Another way you will see is in terms of memory bandwidth where the 512 bit bus also comes in play and differentiates itself from Nvidia's current 384 bit bus for their flagships.

Bitrate has nothing to do with it and will only confuse him.

Why make things more difficult/detailed than they need be like that other thread where I had to guess you were on about bitrate because it did not make sense otherwise?

I had a 512bit bus on a GTX 285 with GDDR3 where it matters more.

yep, nothing wrong :)

As vsg says there are a few different ways of seeing effectively the same information. Clock speed ( 1250MHz ) and effective clock speed ( 1250*4=5000MHz ) are often used.

Bus width is often combined with the above to give memory bandwidth which is normally Bytes not bits hence the divide by 8 ( 1250*4*512/8=320GB/s )

Edit: I think GPU-z has a memory bandwidth box too, so you should see the above information somewhere. Not am my computer just now to check it says this but it should I think :)
