You can compile the drivers yourself and get half decent results, doesnt like WPA though. Alternatively replace the internal card with a more supported Intel chipset. I've done the former and its good enough for me, but its quite unreliable on anything other than open/wep.

ah i c, no wpa isnt an option, maybe ill look at an intel card then, another question is for some reason the partioner in ubuntu failed, and also cant create one in xp, have the "techguys" done something funny?

looks like linux is a no go for me atm, problem i think is when i used acronis to clone the disk to my 320gb its done something odd to the partition table, now i cant resize or partition my c drive :(

O'h is that what it is...duh me :o

Anyway Bradmax thanks for starting the thread on these as I'm really pleased with mine :)

:)

I have to say out of all the laptops ive had this is the one im overall happiest with and ive had vostro 1500, XPS M1210 M1330 etc etc, i just love the size, its more than powerfull enough for what its used for if only they could have fitted an optical drive in it would be perfect :)

I added another 1gb to my Advent the other day - £20 from a high street store. It makes a big difference to Windows performance so I'd really recommend it to all other Wind/Advent owners. With a bios flash to 1.07 you can now get 256mb graphics ram available as well.

It appears that there's a new 9 cell battery in development by Mugen. Should be good for 7+hrs battery life!

seems some people have been having probs with the bios 1.07?

aye, and the techguys site still showing 1.05 :(

edit just checked they have 1.08 listed but the link doesnt work :(

Picked up my Advent earlier on today. So far i'm very impressed with it, much better than the Eee PC's and feels much more like a notebook. It was sitting beside the Acer one and even then there was no comparison between them. It's just going to take me a while to get used to tryping on it but I dare say after a few uni assignments I'll have mastered it!

Is it necessary to keep all that techquys stuff on it?

what stuffs that, tbh there was very little if any bloat on mine? Or do you mean the techguys recovery program?

yes I mean the techguys recovery programme? Is it just like the windows recovery programme?

Also what benefits are there to updating the BIOS?

Depends if you ever want to recover it to a factory state i guess, if thats a no then you can delete it and the partition it uses but as its only about 5gb id leave it, personally i bought a bigger hdd and cloned the 80gb onto it, ive never booted from the 80gb that came with it so mine is still factory fresh in that sense.

Think the newer bios increase the amount of ram available to the onboard graphics from 64mb to 224mb

ive got the 1.08 bios, confirm it increases vram to 224mb :) if anyone wants it before the link is up and working let me know

Can i have a link please mate? Also is this the Advent or the MSI bios?

Oh and also is there a walk through on how to flash it? I've never done it before.

Matthew.

PS: How did you get it if it's not live yet?

found it via forums.msiwind.net there someone posted a link to another site on there that you had to register on to get it, was a bit of a long winded way, unfortunately i dont have a direct link now, ive got the file obviously. I think its been live but the techguysite is screwed?

there was a batch file simply double clicked on that and it flashed the bios, had to leave it on for 10 mins before powering down, it had lost the keyboard as happened with the msi 1.07 bios, then unplug the battery and mains, press the power button for 10s then connect the mains again,

Its advent bios

Just put it on, had no probs.

Got 2 questions about the Bios tho. Should i have the shared memory enabled or disabled, and the same with speedstep. Do you think it's worth having on?

Matthew.

do you mean the system memory? Isnt that the memory built into the board?
