Basically I will be upgrading my netbook soon, the extra RAM is a must have as I use the machine for gaming. I think I could also do with a larger hard drive as well, and was thinking 500GB should be adequate.

Any ideas on what I should look out for? Also I'm pretty sure this thing uses SATA, but I dunno what specific SATA features it supports. Can someone enlighten me on this?

I don't want to spend too much, in fact I would settle for like 300GB-ish depending on price differences and such. Thanks.

Oddly enough I couldn't find a page for the Mobile Intel 945 Express chipset that had some detailed information. In fact the only thing about SATA was that it had it. Not very useful Intel!

Sata 1 is still faster than mechanical hard drives, so that is something of a nonissue. I would get one of the 2.5" WD scorpio drives. Personally I would choose a blue one, for decreased noise and heat, but if you're a gamer you may want one of the 7200rpm black drives. Gaming on a netbook doesn't sound like a winning idea to me though. This one looks a good choice in terms of £/gb.

I'm recommending western digital because I'm very pleased with my WD drives, and the Samsung ones I've got have been flakey. So that's personal bias.

Ah fair enough, I too am a fan of WD though I have no grudges with Samsung, in fact my tower has an 80GB Samsung drive. How much more is the Black version?

Well yeah, but this netbook is all I have right now. I do have an older tower but one of the RAM slots is broken and it it over 7 years old now, I'll be looking to build a new system once I get a job.

Till then I'm just going to have to deal with my Wind U100, though it is overclocked and will soon have 2GB RAM and a new HDD. I just wish it had ION graphics, haha!
