Just tried to update bios with board on the bench nothing plugged in usb in bios usb by pressing the the little switch at the back
it only blinks 5 times then light goes off

Did you format the usb drive to fat 32 and rename the bios file to MSI.ROM ?

sure did tried 4 small usb sticks noticed the power supply clicks on 5 click

Do you need to update the bios , which CPU have you got ?

5950x looking to buy Want to do just in case i messed up
another thing if i used the short the pin to power up will any of the 4 lights flash as not sure if the board is doa

The 5950x should work on that motherboard straight away you could then update the bios. The bios flash should also work so looks like you got to decide on what to do next.

Do you know anyone who has a comparable CPU to test the board ?

Did you enable "File name extension", so you actually have MSI.ROM and not MSI.ROM.ROM?

MSI.ROM show file extensions whats a known usb that works

I remember when i got mine, finding a USB that worked was a right pain.

I found a Kingstone Datatraveler USB2 stick was the only one that worked for me.

Plug a fan into cpu header now it works without it does not

Should only need 24 pin and 8 pin cables from PSU attached, but if it worked with the fan.

Maybe i should i tried this instead of multiple drives.
