MSI X79-GD65 Issues!!

Nope looks like either the board or GPU is borked or even both, about to move back to my UD7 to test the video card.

p.s. sorry for slight thread hijack, just found it kind of fitting given its an X79 MSI board and I have major issues with it.

Have you tried the other X16 3.0 slot ??? or another slot for the 7970??? I hope that card has not gone **** up. Cant see why it would though.

So far tried the following:

7970, Slot 1, bios 1.5, dE post code, no boot, no lights on GPU
7970, Slot 3, bios 1.5, dE post code, no boot, no lights on GPU
7970, Slot 5, bios 1.5, dE post code, no boot, no lights on GPU
8500GT, slot 1, bios 1.5, dE post code, no boot, fan spins, no other life signs
8500GT, slot 3, bios 1.5, boots perfectly
8500GT, slot 5, bios 1.5, boots perfectly

Seemingly 'dE' points to a DXE error which I've been told suggests an internal error on the board.

Just rebuilding back into the UD7 now to test the GPU. I can imagine a package containing a board AND GPU costing me a fair chunk to post to holland, I know I can send them back to respective retailers but I'd rather deal with everything through one person, in this case its all MSI.

OMG a dead 7970 lightening!!! FFS!!!

Should have gone RIVE, but MSI do make great stuff I must admit. Its just bad luck that.

Yep I have zero luck with motherboards, shouldn't take them long to figure out the fault on the card as it doesn't power up in the slightest, motherboard I'm going to try for refund and go rive :)

Board gone back for refund, got an asus (cant remember code) x79 pro coming tommorrow, seller ran out of stock on the UD5, anyway will see how we get on.

On another note the 2 x 8GB vengeance sticks running fine in my x79 shuttle.

Glade to hear your RMA is going through.

2 sticks should work easy its the complexity of 4 sticks in quad channel where things become more difficult.

You'll be fine with the p9x79 pro, from what I make out asus is the only manufacturer not to screw up on x79! Others have had in some cases massive issues.

My next board will be an asus most certainly.

Yeah the Pro is a good option for sure.

Why not the ROG Formula may I ask???

Thats a monster board.

If you need any help setting that one up give us a shout.

First Asus board turned up with manufacturing defaults!! some Fets missing, looked like they had fallen off!!

Replacement should be here tommorrow.

ROGs a bit pricey, plus is red. Im going for a blue/silver colour theme so the pro works well with that.
