So I recently built a new PC and I'm not sure whether the mobo (MSI Z390-A Pro) drivers are installed. I have the driver disk that comes with the mobo but I don't have access to a disk drive. Would it have automatically installed when installing Windows?

Also when I look for drivers here: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z390-A-PRO#down-driver&Win10 64 there are multiple options for different drivers: System and Chipset Drivers; LAN Drivers; On Board VGA Drivers etc. I'm not sure what ones to download, if any.

Hi Alex,

Grab the following:

Intel Chipset Driver
Intel Network Drivers
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
Realtek HD Universal Driver (unless using another audio solution)
Dragon Center (only for tinkering with leds if you have any or maybe for mobo leds or something)
Realtek Audio Control (for download from Microsoft Store, weird, should give you basic audio controls, equalizer etc)

You can download Intel Management Engine Driver if you want, but apart from monitoring your hardware it was said to be like spyware and bloatware. Still unnecessary far as I know.

Other than that, if you ever feel you need a BIOS update to sort something out, make sure BIOS settings are returned to default before updating it. If you don't need to, don't risk it.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. What problems would be present if I needed a BIOS update? Would that not be something I'd need to do right after building? Also, how can I check if I'm using another audio solution? Is that something I'd know if I had done?

You're welcome. Usually a BIOS update isn't a bad idea for AMD Ryzen as they can help with memory compatibility/improvements. Not as essential for Intel unless you find your system unstable in some way and decide to give it a try. It's always a bit risky because if the power goes off while it's doing it, your board will basically be bricked unless it has dual BIOS.

Exactly, you'd know. For example a soundcard with its own software package.
