MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) memory problem??

hey guys, just got my new motherboard, m4 128gb ssd and core i5 2500k. i've got it all setup and windows installed. ssd is plugged into the intel controller sata port and bios is set to ahci so that seems all fine.

i think my memory is running slow though, i've got 4gb of corsair xms3 1600. i know the WEI doesn't really mean anything but for my ram it's say 5.9 but when it was in my old system it was 7.something. is there something in the bios i need to change? something just doesn't seem quite right with it.

i've also been having some problems with getting a signal from my graphics card msi n560gtx twin frozr oc 1028gb, i'm currently downloading drivers for it and the mb so hopefully some of these problems will be solved.

oh yeah i does quite a long beep a start up too, a bit longer than i'm used to with computers, then shows the marvell controller screen just saying no disk is connected, is there anyway to stop that from being shown??

sorry for the lengthy post, any help would be great :)

cheers
Alex

I think the maximum WEI score with 4GB of RAM (and possibly a 64 bit operating system) is 5.9.

Having said that the RAM has probably defaulted to 1333MHz so you need to check with CPU-Z (Memory tab) to see what it's running at.

If CPU-Z shows someting like 667MHz then it's running at 1333MHz (you have to double the speed shown in CPU-Z). If it's showing 800MHz than that's 1600MHz.

If it's running at 1333MHz then you need to change it in the BIOS. You can enable the XMP profile, which should sort out the speed and timings, but you need to set the DRAM voltage manually to ~1.5V.

While you're in the BIOS you can disable the Marvell controller.

cheers for that, will have a good look through the bios. not used to the fancy new bios!! lol. my mouse doesn't seem to like the bios though, i've read that some gaming mice have trouble with the working in the msi mouse bios, i've got an cm storm inferno and the cursor goes all over the place when you try and use it, hopefully one of these driver update will help.

overall pretty chuffed with it all :)

everything seems to be all sorted now. can't believe how quick it is now. upgraded from an amd phenom II x4 955be with a hdd. the graphics card and ram are from the old system. i still cant get over the speed diff with having a ssd, going to get skyrim and bf3 installed on there tomorrow and give it a good test.

If you're not using the Marvell controller you can disable it in BIOS which will stop the message being displayed.

Mainboard settings > Integrated Peripherals > External SATA Controller - set to disabled.

For the RAM try enabling the X.M.P setting in the Overclocking Setting tab.

thanks for the help guys. got the marvell controller turned off and everything seems to be running fine. boots into windows super fast, the colours at the windows 7 start screen dont even get a chance to merge together and 'glow' before it logs into windows.

i'm not sure if this is a problem or not but the beep when i first turn it on is quite long, im used to hearing a short quick beep with other computers, im pretty sure a long beep can either be graphic card related or memory related? i might just be this board has a longer beep than others. like i said the system seems to be working fine.

if anyone else that has the board could you what the beep is like when you turn your system on?

cheers and have a happy new year!!
