it had some nice features like not showing offline contacts

(unless 8.5 can do that as well and i have missed it ? )

I don't like the look of 9 either, was still on 8.1 up until very recently, then was forced to 9 after a reformat, then went back to 8.5 (thanks to MarcLister's link

Hmmm i got latest live messenger 2009(build 14.0.8064.206) but when i try sign in i get error code 8001401a, anyone had this or know how to resolve it? driving me crazy since last night i had an older version which worked always.

Also can't seem to find a way to uninstall this version as it's not even on the control panel "add/remove programmes" list.

not much help for you on the error code and seems google doesnt have that much either

but to remove it, its in the add/remove list under "windows live essentials"

and then go back to version 8.5 that marclister has a link for above in this thread..

Yeah i was spending past hour trying to find a solution, seems there isn't a 100% fix so i gone back to 8.5 like above.....shame really wanted to try the new one.

Hello,

These steps should resolve the error code 8000401a when signing in to WLM..

1. Click on Start then click Run
2. Type in regedit then press Enter.
3. On the left side, click on the + sign of each of the items listed below.
+ HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
+ AppID
4. Right-click on the folder named {380689D0-AFAA-47E6-B80E-A33436FE314B} then click on Export.
5. Give it a filename Backup and save it on the desktop just in case you have to put it back in the registry.
6. Once you have the file saved, right-click on {380689D0-AFAA-47E6-B80E-A33436FE314B} then click on Delete.
7. If you are asked if you want to delete the registry entry, click on Yes.
8. Restart your computer then try again.

Let me know if it works for you..

Erm I remember having a similar problem to this on a friends pc and had to re-register some sort of dll. After a quick google found:

regsvr32 softpub.dll

can also do Wintrust.dll Initpki.dll Rsaenh.dll Mssip32.dll Cryptdlg.dll while your at it if needed.

This can also be done via dial-a-fix which is a very good program also
