MTA:San Andreas - Is it dead? Alternatives?

I'm not sure I'll get an answer here, as I doubt many people/anyone else plays it anymore.

I had a sudden hankering to play MTA:SA race, (MTA:SA v1.1.1), and after reinstalling it on my XP partition and starting the game, it seems that there are no servers anymore. Is this right? Is there a different, newer version?

Please don't say it's no more.

EDIT - No.. they moved from VC to SA... oops

Yeah, SA:MP is live. Don't know if there's a race mode or not though, I'll have to try and find out.

After having a butchers aroud for info on MTA:SA, it seems it's slipped from it's digital coil. I'm actually properly gutted. I quit playing for ages, and thought it'd be awesome to get back into it.

I'm pretty sure SA:MP has a race mode, infact.. thats all I remember it as

Wow, 500 player server support and bot support...

I might set up a server sometime actually. Would there be much call for an OcUK server?

GTA SA is an amazing game

Recently played it though and simply thought "I remember it looking better than this"

Too much GTA4.

I would actually love Rockstar forever if the next GTA used the San Andreas map. I would be soooo happy! San Andreas is the best GTA map imo. Three different cities, a desert (Vegas), countryside with lots of twisty roads and big hills and jumps, a san francisco(ish) town with lots of big hills for epic jumps as well as a LA style town. This, combined with a proper physics engine and good graphics would be a huge winner.

Another +1 here for an OcUK SA:MP server.

I sometimes play on a cops and robbers server, but racing would be pretty epic.

Which is the one where someone is the president and one team has to protect him, police fbi etc, then theres a team of terrorists trying to kill him...Then a team of psychos trying to kill anything and everything

Hmm... I'm not sure, I don't think I've played that mode before. Although I'd be quite interested in giving it a go myself if you found out what mode it is.

I've been playing GTA SA-MP for around 3 years. I think on the current version (v0.3a) the number of servers runs into the thousands. The servers i play on are racing servers called [ESC]Racing ( http://www.esc-racing.de/index_en.php ) although interest was kind of lost for a while by the players here we are currently trying to revive the servers and attract players to race there again. We currently have 5 servers running there. 4 in the 0.3a version and 1 still in v0.2x

1 of the servers has 158 different tracks to race in and i'm sure there is a race to suit everyone no matter what your vehicle of choice is.

GTA SA-MP is still very much in development and gets better with each new release and has a very high number of players. With 100's of people running around on the same server with guns and pimped out cars, what more could you want!!

BTW, [ESC]Racing is race only and killing isn't allowed so if you just want to race without worrying about getting your car blew up by a noob with a minigun then it's the place for you. There's also an anti-cheat system in place too and Game Moderators to remove anyone not respecting the rules. Feel free to check it out. There are other racing servers on there too but i can't comment much about those as i just stick to what i know.
