Ok, time to get a helmet. I admit i've been riding without one up til now so before my luck runs out and crack my head against the nearest tree/rock or a big pile of cow dung I am going to get a helmet.

Done a bit of research and i've come up with.

Met Parachute ( I like the removable chin guard )

Met 5th Element ( This gets lots of great reviews )

Anyone got experience on them?

i own a 5th element and its amazing buy it now lol. the parachute is pretty terrible tbh as the chin guard is apparently very weak

not at all. its not the crap stuff that most helmet outers are made of. its much harder balistics type plastic

I think you would look like a complete nob riding the first one(and how is that gonna help that much  ). Sooo the second one.

Best to go try them on first,i got a weird head and some fit good and other very bad.

well if you crash hard and land on your face.... you keep your teeth

ive always used full-face moto x style helmets, but i go a little more extreme than general xc

Exactly,i dont think i would ride with just an Xc helmet on. Full facer just gives a bit more confidence.

you get a lot hotter though :( even from riding downhill

but as you say, i would never use a normal helmet again because i would have tasted dirt on many occasions if it wasnt for a fullface helmet

My mate has literally cracked/smashed standard mtb full facer helmets. Hes moved onto motoX helmets for the sheer strength. He also has scars from when he didnt wear a helmet. ;)

hmm, yeah the standard fullface cycle helmets really arn't that great for dh, freeride or any agressive riding... most TLD, and one or two from the 661 range are moto aproved cycle helmets though.

i have a 661 flight hurricane which is approved for moto x use

I have a xen, great helmet with one niggle.........it isnt vented enough for those long rides so your head gets pretty damn warm (certainly in the summer).

Gone for this in the end, it's about £20 cheaper than the Met 5th element, add to the fact that after trying some Giro and Met helmets in the LBS I've found Giro fits better. Should be here tomorrow. :)

funky. but what colour? :)
