Much advance in speed recently?

I've been running a 36GB Raptor as my OS drive and a 200GB WD 7.2k as my games drive.

I'm assuming most advances are in HDD size, rather than speeds / access times?

In essence, if I don't need the space, is there any benefit to changing my drives?

if its an old WD then a new aaks or a seagate 7200.11 would obviously offer some performance increase. I am not sure how much though. I cant see that it would be enough to warrant the money personally.

The Raptors are still much faster than current offerings and are holding their value too. I've still got my 74Gb Raptor and I'll be keeping it for a fair while.

Seek times have gotten better, the Seagate 7200.11s are 12.5ms compared to 15ms for my 7200.10. Also the transfer rates are a lot higher, again the 7200.11s do an average of 80-85mb/s.

If you really want performance, give SSDs some time to mature and stick with what you have, you won't regret it.
