Ah, that's a 780i chipset board. Yea, I wouldn't suggest investing any new CPUs for that board (like a quad core) as they don't do too well. Technically one of the Q6000, Q8000 or Q9000 series Core 2 Quad CPUs will work in that board, but they won't overclock too well.
my q6600 hit 3.6ghz without too much issue on an Asus 780i board...
