I've been using the same creative sound blaster 2 card since 2002 but now that I have a decent 5.1 speakers(x-540's) for my pc, I thought it might my time for an upgrade?

Would I notice much sound differences if I upgraded my sound card?

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 6.1 sound card. Was released in 2002.

I upgraded from an Xfi fatality pro to an Asus Xonar D2 and noticed a huge improvement using x540s. I mainly listen to music using my headphones and I am really happy I upgraded.

It all depends on what you are intending to upgrade to and how much you enjoy your music etc :)

Gaming, movies & music. The surround sound is abit dull, the back speakers aren't loud enough. Plus, I can hear crackling from time to time. I might upgrade.

This one?

If gaming is your main focus and movies and music take a back seat then by all means go for the Creative card. Personally I prefer the Asus range of cards, mainly due to the quality of the components used compared to that of the Creative. Also the sound quality is far superior from the Xonar than Creative Xfi imo.

i recently upgraded to the ~£27 xfi(?) card from OcUK from a 4+ year old card and the difference was huge, games sound miles better, music seems clearer etc.

i didnt change my headphones either, just a regular pair of senhiessers and i am in no way an audiophile so i wouldnt notice minor things. this change was major.

Mainly gaming as my PS3 set-up does a good job at playing music.

£90 for the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty is abit much though.

P.S. MossyUK, excellent signature. I totally agree with you on that. :D

Yes if its really only for gaming I agree it is a bit high but the difference will be staggering, especially in 5.1. If you aren't prepared to spend that amount then look at the Xtreme Gamer cards.

I have the money and I've never been stupid enough to get into debt my whole life, yet. I do live with room mates(parents :p) that pay for water, heating and electricity though. So, I guess thats how I can save up. I do however pay £300 a month rent.

I had the exact same model of Audigy 2. Was a very nice card for the time. Since then I've had an X-Fi XtremeMusic and a Xonar D2.

The Xonar's a great card but if gaming is your primary focus, I'd say get an X-Fi (not XtremeAudio). Although the sound quality on the Xonar is better, the X-Fi cards have better support for higher EAX levels.

I ended up abandoning my XtremeMusic because of compatibility problems with 4GB RAM in Vista x64. Not everybody has the problem though and you might find one works perfectly.

I just bought one. Feel kinda guilty and bad spending that much on a sound card but I hope the better sound quality will make sweet love to my ears. :D

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I was going to place an order and have the same audigy 2 this guy has and was considering keeping it but I was going to go for the "Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium 7.1 Sound Card" but was trying to find some posts on how this card is with vista 64 bit.

Does anyone have vista + this card that can comment, I was thinking about removing the card from the build and seeing how I get on with the audigy but im not sure.

I think £77 for the card is a tad expensive but worth it if it works ok but wouldnt mind some feedback from others who own creative cards + vista.

Was also in a battle to decide whether to go with vista or xp 64 bit.

I have an X-Fi Extreme Music and I am thinking of switching to the £60 entry level Xoanar as I am fed up of Creative drivers in Vista 64. They have sorted out many of the issues, however when ever there is problem with a game (not often) it is down to sound drivers. I may be wrong but there seems to a consensus that the Xoanar is more consistent at delivering good 3D sound where as I have found that my X-Fi does not always get it right.

From what I have heard the Xoanars are better for music.

Might take a look at a couple of them then. Feels strange though as I have always had creative cards. Shame they cant get their asses into gear.
