Spookiest light I ever saw.

Rain squalls diffusing a cloudburst over the fulmar colony at Mullach Bi, Hirta, St Kilda.

Looks too cgi for me. On the 2nd link, there are a few too many dots of birds like dust spots - remove them and it would be better. At the moment there are highlights standing out on the rock, and they detract from the picture rather than add.

As an image its got some serious impact, but as a photo it looks like you have got the 'burn' tool in PS and got a bit heavy handed. I'm a massive fan normally, just not so keen on this one. If it was a touch more true to scene I would like it a lot more.

I agree with what the others are saying Tom. Nice image, but the processing is too heavy on this one. On my calibrated Eizo (120 lumins), the cliff and clouds are far too dark. Lighten them up a bit id say. Also maybe reduce the saturation of the light a little. I also don't like the white lines on the border at all as they are very distracting. Other than that it is all good. :p You still out there at the end of the world then? How is your mouse counting going?

Pfff, you weak-eyed fool :p

Here's a video clip of my workflow -

Hmm, maybe you're right. Was processing in a pitch black room last night, and with a bit of ambient today it does look a touch dark maybe (also on a calibrated IPS @ 120l).

Back in Edinburgh atm, next trip to mouse island end of May for 5 weeks. Puffins galore :)

Just to let people nkow there was some good Kilda coverage in the last 10 mins of Monty Hall's programme on BBC 2 this evening, worth checking out on iplayer for those interested.

Hmm, personally I think it's spot on, or at least not too dark anyway. :)

Really need to get back down to Devon/Cornwall and get some photomojo back. :(

(obviously Kilda isn't in Cornwall!)

I think that's pretty awesome. I'd probably crop some of the cliff to the left off so it's just the lower part or balances with the space to the right.

I had that Monty Halls programme on tonight but wasn't taking much notice, that was until I heard "St. Kilda"! I'd love to go to that place.
