Multi Monitor Setup Not Working

I have had a tri monitor set up for the last few years working perfectly. The displays I've been using are: Samsung S24B300, Acer S240HL, and a Samsung 40" Smart TV (no longer connected).

I've just moved house, the PC was transported very carefully - not bashed at all. With moving house the TV that I previously had connected has now been disconnected and is set up in a different room. I'm going to be introducing a Sony 37" LCD TV to this system instead.

My graphics card - AMD Radeon 7800 series has the following connections available: Mini Display Port, HDMI, DVI.

I've currently got the Samsung S24B300 connected via DVI (DVI - DVI lead). I've got the Acer S240HL connected via HDMI (HDMI - HDMI lead).

I've got an active mini display port adaptor (DVI - Mini display port), ideally want to use this for the Acer monitor, I have a DVI - HDMI lead also.

When I have either one of the monitors connected it works perfectly. When both are connected it works to the extent you can see the Windows 7 logo during boot on both displays, but then when Windows 7 loads up fully it turns the Samsung off. In my old place it used to do this infrequently with the Acer display instead.

All of my cable's work perfectly as they work on their own with out the other monitor plugged in, Windows is fully updated, my display driver is fully updated (14.501.1003).

Can anyone help shead some light on this? I need to get this multi display set up working again.

This won't give you any comfort, but I had exactly the same problem a while ago and could not fix it.

I probably spent over £50 on new cables thinking that was the issue.

I then decided it was my ancient Acer monitors with dvi-d inputs so spent about £150 on monitors with mini-display ports etc and got the same problem. (I was fortunately able to sell them on ebay to recoup some of the cost).

It sounds barmy, but when you have a 3 monitor set-up you can't really play games without it.

I eventually upgraded my motherboard and CPU for other reasons, and my 3 monitor set-up (with my old monitors and cables) now works perfectly.

The thing that seemed to cause it for me was upgrading the Origin game installer, but that might just be coincidence.

I tried rolling back to older AMD drivers without effect.

But I do sympathise, and if there's a solution out there I'd love to find it.

The only thing I have changed is that I no longer use the 'Windows key & P' combination to change screen set up. I now:

1 - start with the desktop shown on all three screens (i.e. with icons on the main one, backdrop on the others - not stretched)

2 - right click on desktop

3 - choose AMD Catalyst Control Centre

4 - AMD Eyefinity Display Group - either 'Create...' (first time) or 'Reenable' (once it's set up)

5 - Then once you want to go back to a non-stretched desktop then do the same and choose disable group.

Let me know how you get on, as I was massively annoyed at the time I had the same issue.
