Cool, thanks for the replies so far. We have had CS 1.6 running fine on the machines in the past which is why I presumed Q3 would work.

Awesome game but if I recall correctly even that might push the boundaries of such old graphics hardware.

I dunno, Soldat is REALLY old (like 10 years old?) and had pretty basic graphics even then. If G33 which is at least 5 years younger than the game can't run it, then I wouldn't hold out much hope of getting anything decent running.

Don't get me wrong I am under no illusions as to the power of Intel onboard video, but if it can't handle a 2D DX8 game then he may as well give up now

Bad graphics - check, awesome gameplay - check, oh and free - check.

Should be ideal.

And a great community that's still going after years. If playing Vista/Windows 7 you will need to look around online for the advice that makes it play under that O/s.

Yeah but Soldat is less demanding than Q3 and is also a DirectX game rather than OpenGL; typically onboard video handles DX a lot better than OGL.

In other words, if it can't handle Soldat, I'd be very surprised if it could handle Q3.

You may be right actually. Now I think about it, the times I struggled to get it running on someone's laptop was when they had brought an old Pentium III laptop to a LAN party

I've never tried it on a low specced machine, but the graphics don't look that crazy, even with everything maxed. I might be wrong though.
