hi I've got about five or six old hard drives knocking around and would like to put them to use, does anyone know if you can get an external hard drive enclosurevwhich could take several well four more drives, I've had a look on the Internet and the max I can find is one that takes two.

cheers

How big are the drives? If they're less than 500GB it's a waste of time and money.

What sort of interface do you want USB/FireWire/eSATA/etc?

How do you what the drives presenting JBOD/RAID/Individual?

One option would be to get the smallest PC case that'll hold the drives and an eSATA port multiplier card. Build the drives (up to 5) and the port multiplier into the PC case. Then connect to it using a single eSATA cable. This assumes that the host machine has a eSATA connection capable of talking to a port multiplier.

You can also get adapters that'll connect multiple internal SATA connectors to a multilane cable and then back again at the other end.

Unfortunately there's no good way of pointing you towards suppliers that do supply the sort of kit you're probably looking for due to forum rules.

thanks I have a couple of 500gig one that's 320, 250 and 80 I believe they're sata except for the 80 which is IDE. I have an old pc which just sits gathering dust in a cupboard so could use thst to hold the drives and make it I to some kinda external hard disk drive caddy

ideally I'd like to connect it with a USB or was considering setting my house up with s wired net work as have 2 pcs a laptop and xbox so potentially use the old pc plus harddrives as a back up facility connect with ethernet cable
