Multiple monitor set up problem

I've connected 2 monitors to my laptop, one via hdmi and the other via vga. I can get any 2 combinations of the 3 monitors working (the third being the laptop display) but I can't get all 3 to work together. Will it work if I use a usb to vga or do I need some sort of external graphics card. I'm determined to find a way of doing this using my current laptop. If I can get the 2 external displays and built in laptop monitor all working then I will be adding a third monitor in place of the laptop screen.

It would help if you provided the make and model of your laptop and the type of graphics adapter it uses.

It probably just doesn't support more than 2 displays.

Most mainstream laptops use the Intel cpu and chipset for graphics, and this will only support two monitors, including the built in screen.

A USB to DVI or VGA adaptor will add a third screen, it's OK for office work and such, and in my experience even for video, but I doubt it would work for games.

One drawback I have found with my Dell Latitude is that the USB adaptor rarely works after you wake the laptop from sleep mode. Unplug it and reconnect and it's fine, but it does need that 'nudge'!

Thanks for the replies, the laptop is a Samsung R730.

I was guessing that the laptop only allowed a maximum of 2 screens including the built in one but its good news that the USB to DVI adapter will add the third screen that I want. I don't use the laptop for any type of gaming, its all office related work so the adapter will be ideal.

Malcolm I will have a look for one from the manufactures you suggested in my other thread and then if it works ok I'll buy my other monitors. Cheers for the help so far, I'm sure I'll be back with more questions...
