Right. Let's get the embarrasment out of the way first. I drive a Fiat Seicento Sporting (Abarth, no less :p) which although is quite chuckable, it's a 1.1 packing a beastly 54bhp, with a 0-60 of 13.5 seconds. Ahem :o

As I'm 6' tall and 19st, I'm starting to find it a *little* cramped for my daily commute, about 15 miles of B-Roads.

Sooo, I'm after a hot-hatch to pep up the journey to work and making overtaking tractors a bit less life threatening. Believe it or not, my last car was a Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 IDE. God I miss having a bit of power. Kept falling apart though.

Anyway, I digress. I reckon privately, I might get £1500 for my little red toy car, its 51 plate with 69k on the clock and a panaromic sunroof (quite rare) so its nothing out of the ordinary.

I'll probably have to save up for about a year to raise 2/3k for something more special. So far I've looked at..

Clio 172 (Far and beyond my favourite choice)
Pug 306 Turbo (Not that keen on the looks)
Saxo VTS (I'm 25, not 17)

Anything else that returns reasonable MPG, has less than 80k on the clock, won't fall apart every two weeks and does 0-60 in around 7/8 seconds or less? around 2-4k really. Don't want to get anything ancient either, preferably no earlier than 1999/1998, more preferably something around 200/2001.

Another thing, I've seen a very nice looking Clio 182, 03 plate, 43k on the clock for 3K!! On autotrader. The only thing is is that it is stolen and recovered. Cat D? This puts me off, but mostly because I don't understand the implications of that.

Like I say, got some major saving to do in the meantime, but no harm in getting excited well in advance :D

Thar Clio is very cheap. The cat D thing is dependant upon your personal feelings, but remember it will be a lot harder to sell on, and depending on the circumstances in which it was stolen it may not be in good condition. But then again its only £3000.

//Edit, actually I thought they only started making 182s in 2004?

if your a big bloke why not look at a slightly bigger car,

honda accord 2.0 vtec or type r - you can get a nice one for 2-3k, but i wouldn't worry about sub 80k a clean example with 100k, rather than a ragged 75ker will be better.

or a mondeo st24 or zetec s

What about one of these.
