Multiple PC freezing problems

If my PC is idle for 20-30 mins is freezes.
Sometimes when I am using it normally for <10mins it freezes.
In some multiplayer games when I open the server list, it freezes.
Four times when I have been trying to write this thread, it has frozen. That's 4 times more than usual, lately. It's being ridiculous today. I'll just have to keep it off until I find some sort of fix today :S

When it freezes, all I can do is hit the reset button.

I've tried... reinstalling my OS: Win7 64-bit --- resetting clock speeds --- defrags and regcures as well as other things that escape me right now.



Help, please.
 
Windows Memory Diagnostic sometimes says I need to contact my manufacturer but sometimes says my memory is fine :S
 
I am guessing that you have not plugged in all the power cables into the motherboard coming from the psu.

but it could be anything based on your symptoms.

What is your cpus temps ? is it a recent build ? was it working for ages and then all of sudden started freezing ? or what ?
 
I'm almost certain that all the power cables are in, but I'll have a look later to check.
CPU temps range from 35-60, I built this pc around easter this year and it did have some similar problems to start with but I was sure they'd been fixed. It has been working fine ever since, until this week.
Sometimes it works great for hours and I can shut down normally - but usually I start up and freezes after ~2-3mins and I try about 4 times, run memperfect and regcure, it still fails so I give up.

reset cmos, take everything out apart from cpu, ram, hard drive. ofcourse mb and psu needed also.

Refit psu cables into motherboard

try refitting memory into different slots, if it is 1/3 do 2/4 slots.

make sure you have all the psu cables plugged into the m/b that is two going into mb/ and one in graphics card.

make sure you turn off any settings in the cmos after reseting it to default that could potentially freeze your pc. cpu temp alarms, any cpu auto clock features, disable them all.

if it still freezes after doing all that and you have tried to reinstall, try running off a linux live cd that way you can rule out windows problem, try installing onto another hard drive, rule out hd.

refit the cpu and put new silver compound on (as last resort)

if it is still freezing could be faulty psu and/or ram and/or chip and/or mb.
 
Thanks for the advice, I'll try all this when I can give myself a decent amount of time to do it carefully.
In the meantime, my hard drive has started making a lot of activity noise, and it takes longer to boot - ~10secs more.
