Multiple PSU's on 1 rig

Hi guys,

Quick question.

I am building a LiteCoin miner which has 3x 7990 PSUs. I have bought one of the last 1200w PSU's here before it went out of stock :)

Doing the math I think with 3 of these cards overclockers and the peripheral devices needed to keep them working I think I am going to need more than 1200W.

So my question is can I use multiple power supplies on 1 system, I know its possible if you wire them together but I am thinking just to have 2 of the cards on 1 PSU and 1 card and all the rest on a separate PSU and just turn them both on at the power button on the PSU's and set the system to boot whenever it has power from the BIOS.

Anyone know if this will work without them sharing a ground wire etc?

Regards,
Danny

The 2nd PSU won't power up when you turn the PC on from the power button, you'll have to rig the second PSU to switch on when you flick the power switch at the back.

There was a thread made only the other day about this, should be able to dig it up.

you can use 2 psu's together.

I can't remember how it's done though I think there is a cable you need to connect them together.

some cases are dual psu like my unused lianli a71a which has a top and bottom mounts for psu

thanks for the quick replies guys.

I understand I can use a paperclip to trick the PSU to power on with the power button by connecting the earth (green) to a red cable.

I am a fairly competent with computer parts user but dont have any experience with electrics so I was hoping to not have to rewire anything :P

You need one of these, and don't forget to power all the connections on your mobo ( 24 pin and any 8 pin cpu) and at least your first graphics card from the primary psu.
