Is it possible to have both a local, and a remote profile on 1 machine (Win 7 Pro laptop)?

Reason I ask is I need to connect my laptop to our new server at work (SBS2011), obviously I have a local user profile on the laptop that I would like to keep. In addition to this I want a second remote profile for when attached to the work domain network.

Is this possible, if so how & what problems am i likely to encounter?

if i understand you correctly then yes, you can join the laptop to the domain but still log on to local profiles

if I understand it yes, you'd can set one as work and one as home in the network options. Win 7 should detect that it's a different network environment the first time you connect it...

How do i go about creating the profile for the work domain, surely when i create a new user it would be local?

When you join it to the work domain, your domain account which resides on the server is authenticated, and a domain profile is created on your laptop.
Your local profiles remain intact. Computers can have many profiles, domain or local.

How do i join the domain without a local account, or do i create the account on the server first?

Join the domain with any account that has that right, ie domain administrator, create an account on the domain and then logon to the laptop with it
