Muse: The Resistance - thoughts?

Crap. The start of the fall from grace or a blip? Who knows.

I heard they announced they wouldn't play any more music from Origin of Symmetry live either....just stupid.

Completely up their own arse, but that made it awesome!

Exogenesis is absolutely amazing! Uprising and a few others are very good as well, nothing on par with their previous albums but still damn good!

You can't be that boombastic and that pretentious at the same time, it just doesn't work.

Uprising was the only anthemic song on the album and from being quite easily the biggest muse fanboy in the universe at one point ( Zefan is a muse noob compared to me) I thought exogenesis was bad. If they had to release it, there should have been an albums worth of typical tracks with that as an extra section ala 'music for the jilted generation' (prodigy).

I read that Chris said that everything they wrote went on the album, it shows. They obviously didn't have a selection of grade A material to make an album with.

This!

Overall though, it's not a patch on their early stuff. But then neither was Black Holes and Revelations.

If by early you mean Showbiz, then it certainly is. Showbiz is pretty poor in hingsight, I don't think it has any AAA Muse songs on it.

Overdue and Sobre must be the two worst album songs by the band (well, second to Endlessly anyway, that is awful).

2 good tracks (uprising and MK Ultra), the rest are like listening to sounds from a toilet cubicle.

Which is a shame, as previous albums were superb.

Muscle Museum and Showbiz are AAA songs. Especially Muscle Museum.
Hate This & I'll Love You is very good, and Uno is excellent.

OoS is near perfection in my eyes (ears) but those songs I've mentioned above really bring Showbiz close to OoS

Muscle Museum is the signature song of Muse form that time period really, but it suffers from overly angsty lyrics in the chorus:

So boohoo, it seems that no-one loves me
It really is so rubbish, that I can't get laid
I, really like this girl, but she doesn't like me
So I'll play computer games instead
Yeah, and I'll play them on my own :'(

I can say all the songs you mention are OK but I rarely go back to them these days, if ever.

For me, OoS sags hard after microcuts, but the first slab of that album is stonking.

LOL just 'cause you've grown out of the style of song an album contains doesn't make it a crap album in hindsight........ It just means your tastes have changed =) I still think it's a brilliant album [Showbiz] but then again I still love a good bit of angst; well, when I can be bothered to pay attention to the lyrics anyway!

Well, that's exactly what it means to me :p

I don't do the whole lacing everything I say with 'in my opinion' because it just goes without saying.

I like my angsty music to either be more aggressive or more subtle these days, I tend to avoid 'whiney' lyrics because it just sounds relatively childish, especially when it's about unrequited love.

I love the angsty lyrics. It fits in with their age and their style of music back then.

For me Darkshines and Megalomania are better than a lot of the earlier songs.
