Music creation

I'm looking for a home studio type music creation program. Something that I can use to create music from scratch.

What's the best program for this? It's for a friend, price isn't a problem, but a free trial would be nice to know what he's getting.

Fruityloops or FL Studio as its also known, top program and fully featured, fairly easy to use but perhaps not quite as pro as some would say but it certainly can make quality music if the person is capable.

As above, Reason 3 is a great product. If you want something you can install and get your head around pretty quickly then this is the perfect choice, great instruments as well. Its probably worth it just for the Combinator - you can get some real fat sounds with it.

Another one is Sonar Producer which I also use. A much more professional piece of software, but a pretty steep learning curve and more expensive. Main advantage is it can process audio natively, Reason cannot.
