Just wondered who here listens to music while riding a motorbike? Only wondering as I'm getting quite close to getting a bike, got my Practical test a week on Friday, with my DAS training before hand. And once that is done and dusted(assuming I pass of course) I'm going to get a loan and buy myself a bike. So I was just wondering who actually listens to music while riding. Is it distracting? etc. Just curious is all :p.

I don't, find it distracting when your really going for it. Just a wee cruise round the back roads looking at the scenery then it might be ok. Others are fine with it all the time, its really up to you and how you think it effects you.

Much better of getting a race can n listening to real noises round the back roads!

when I rode I did. not distracting at all. needs to be loud though, bikes are noisey old things. Had a mini disk with a good set of speakers.

A better way if you have the money is get some speakers built into the helmet.

I do sometimes, longer trips. I don't have it very loud though, just loud enough to break up the tedium of the BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR on main roads.

I don't tend to do it for short trips or when I'm just riding for pleasure though.

That's kinda the situations I'd use it in. I just wonder what I'd find more distracting, the constant engine noise while travelling to London on the motorway, or having music to listen too lol. I love my music, listen to it constantly, so I think I'd possibly find it worse with just my thoughts to listen too hah.

The only time music bothers me on the bike is when it's too loud to hear things I want to hear - as long as it's below that level it never distracts me. On the downside, it ends up a bit indistinguishable at speed with wind noise, but I prefer to play it safe. It still breaks up the wooshing a bit in the helmet, so does having my headphones in I find.

I'll be experimenting with it soon, I start a job with about a 20 mile A13 stretch in it in just under a month so I'll be wearing my ipod on the way to and from work I reckon.

nope, i *have* to hear what the engine is doing, as well as feel it, in a car or on a bike.

With my preferred music (Prodigy Chemical Bros etc), i tend to find myself hoofing it a bit too much though, the music i listen to directly affects my riding/driving

Tried it once and didn't like it, same when i'm on the push bike.

I was the same
Spent loads on a good Autocom system with In helmet speakers, microphone and an audio input. 1st day I wend out, stuck the mp3 player on and went for a ride. 2miles later, switched the MP3 off. Didnt like it at all.
Ended up just using the intercom system when the missus was pillion.
