Musings about so-called "short" games

I don't mind short as in 6 -12 hrs. I like mp best so sp campains should be short as most of my time is multiplayer. Haven't even finished cod4 but i play evreyday the mp.

Some games fell padded out tho not to make them short Hl2 was one for me the boat/buggy bit wtf was that about added nothing to the story

I'm with you on this one, I stopped playing when I got to the boat. Totally lost interest right there, I couldn't care less whether I reached the guy's lab any more...

Then you're missing out, the HL2 Episodes are perfectly long for an Episode, full games only last 12-15 hours now so these episodes at 5 or more each fit the bill nicely.

Maybe so, but all HL games felt like that for me except for Portal. I lost interest in HL and HL2 relatively early on. I didn't like opposing forces much and the only thing I do like in the whole series are the multiplayer elements :p

I think COD:4 was done very well how it went from one mission to the next with the movie briefing screen. I actually had to stop myself playing it to the end in one go because it was quite seamless. Not only that but like OP says, it quicksaved at nearly every 3-4 minutes of game events. Pretty sweet and really it would have seemed a lot longer without these features.

There's also the fact that time goes faster when your having fun so im sure that holds some effect phsycologically.
