Already have a Sigma 30mm f1.4 & 70-200mm f4 in my collection. What other must have lens' would you reccomend?

I am off to Australia later this year and was hoping to take 3-4 decent lens' with me, maybe wide angle and fish eye?

Thanks in advance..... =)

Totally depends what you want. A fish eye is definitely not a must have for most people though, it is very specialized

Since you have a tele lens you might like a wide angle. Nikon 12-24, Sigma 8-16mm are my choices but there are other, tamon 10-24mm and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. However, ultra wide angles are hard to use, not very forgiving and are also specialised. I love wide angle photos but hardly ever use my sigma 10-20mm

However, you lack a general purpose walk around lens. I suggest either the Nikon 16-85mm VR or the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 (availability is limited atm).

The sigma doesn't give as much range but it is f/1.8 all the way and very sharp.
The Nikon has a very useful range and the 26mm end is noticeably wider than the 18mm lenses so you may not want a wide angle at all.

Thanks for the great advice. The Sigma 8-16mm was already on my radar so having that recommended is reassuring. An all purpose.... im not sure what type of photography this would allow? Can you give me some examples?

The main purpose is to allow you to do a bit of everything without having to take off the lens making it convenient. E.g., you can go wide for landscapes and architecture, you can zoom in for details, still life, people. Useful traveling or just more casual work.

Thanks for clearing that up. Does seem like a good idea for traveling, especially when in the outback. Shall take a look at some.... :)

Nikon 12-24 f4 or the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 would be the next one to go for imo. I have the 12-24 and it's one of the lenses I use most. I have an 8mm fisheye but I don't really use that much, though it's nice to have for occasional use. I'm quite interested in the sigma 18-35 f1.8 as my next purchase, though I'm not sure I can justify that at the moment!

Tokina 11-16 f2.8 is very sharp and fast. I have one and it is excellent at landscapes and the odd looking macro. Certainly gives you a feeling of 'wrap-around' when you put the camera mm away from an object and the surroundings envelope you into the image. :)

The tokina is a great lens, yo trade a faster aperture for less focal length. For indoor use like photograph clubs or indoor events the tokina wins but for landscape use where you have the camera on a tripod the greater versatility of the longer zoom ranges is beneficial. Not that the tokina is worse at landscape work, it is just convenient to be able to zoom to 24mm when needed without swapping lenses (or go back to 8mm on the sigma).

I agree with d.p, I have a d7100 as-well as the tokina and whiles its an awesome lens it is not very forgiving with perspectives, my suggestion would be the Nikon 17-55 2.8, awesome for landscapes and very usable for a walk around lens as the 55 is nice in built up areas only thing with lens is a bit heavy. i picked mine up on the bay in excellent condition for £500

Having recently picked up a D7000 with the Nikon 16-85mm Lens I would suggests it's worth a serious look, very useful range and first impressions is it's pretty sharp and detailed even wide open. Can be picked up for a reasonable price on auction as well.

cant recommend enough the sigam 18-35mm f1.8 its wide enough for indoor work and fast with a constant 1.8. It is also super sharp!

All these images were my attempt at street photography on the underground, im still not 100% about taking pics of strangers.
This is my favourite image, such lovely contrast, depth and sharpness. It was hand held on the tube while moving!
