Unreal 99, 2003 and 2004 were proper PC shooters. The engine was great, there were rubbish devs before UE

Another must play for me is MechWarrier/2, though they have aged terribly and probably can be sidestepped if you are too young to have played them first time round

Company of Heroes must be up there for mordern day classic. It real did shake up the rts gerne, with style and quality on all fronts.
