Hey folks,

As the title suggests...I'm looking for some decent TV series for me n the mrs to watch. We've done a few over the years but here are the most recently watched/watching.

Based on this list of series we have watched what would you recommend we look up next?

Sopranos
The Wire
Boardwalk Empire
24
Arrested Development
Modern Family
Game of Thrones
Dexter

My mind has went blank while making this list. More will come back to me but you get the idea.

Many Thanks!

Seeing as The Shield's been mentioned, I'd say it's worth watching but -- for me anyway -- it's much more of a "cartoon" experience than other police-based series.

The plots are engaging, but much larger than life. It's certainly faster paced and less authentic than The Wire, but I found it hard to care about the main characters... especially after episode one's shock. I think I just wanted to see what trouble they got into next.

So for me it's definitely first division material rather than premier league.

I think the last thing I found unexpectedly engaging was the US version of The Killing. I missed the Danish original when it was first on, and now I'm attached to the US characters I thought I'd give the second Danish series a miss (now on BBC2). I'll probably wait a few years and then buy the originals.

The only thing I'd say about The Killing though is that it's definitely a "sit down and watch it all at once" type of experience. On TV the cliffhangers were pretty frustrating (in a good way).

Not a chance I'd get her to sit down for Battlestar Galactica or Xfiles.

The Killing looks like a good shout. Will have a gander, breaking bad and house to.

Seems to be so many seasons of house. Will take weeks to watch them from S1!

House is a series I have only dipped into occasionally, and it seemed a bit too contrived for my tastes (and to have gone on too long to retain any quality). But then I watched ER from start to finish and the same could be said about that. So House is a series I might take a proper look at if I see some cheap deals.

I also have series 1 of Breaking Bad on my shelf because that's been highly recommended. Game of Thrones will probably appeal to me as well, but I have the books to read (and then forget!) before I can start thinking about that. It may well be another series I ignore until there's a boxed set available in... well, quite a few years. :-)
