Mustang vs Focus RS

ECOboost, awful roads, need to use back seats for 40%+ of my trips = RS.
5l V8, looks awesome = Mustang.

I'd rather greet a Mustang on my drive.

Too attack B-roads, drive flat out in all weather and have the security of grip and very confident inspiring: FOCUS RS! Though I'd just go and buy an EVO X for half the money, as its as good if not better, downside being its not new and its not an RS.

Heritage, sound and makes you grin just to start it: V8 Mustang everytime. Forget the Ecoboost half the charm of the Mustang is the V8, lose that and its just your average coupe and when people ask you to rev it you will feel mighty embarrassed trying to explain why it sounds junk. They are also still very much a modding platform car, though now standard they are the best they have ever being, they do have weaknesses which are easily fixed and do not cost much money but owning a Mustang tends to lead to a lot of modding.

Two completely different cars in how they drive, the Mustang takes a lot of skill to pedal quick, particular in poor conditions, whereas the Focus RS is a point it and go type car with huge traction. Really depends what your use is and if your willing to modify or not.

Focus RS as you wont lose money on it and its better for a family.

You are aware that Mustang have also lost no money, the few people I know who have owned one for a year and sold it have done so for what they paid or a slight profit. Dealerships took most back at original sell price. :)

The Mustang is going to turn more heads than the RS, but the RS has more practicality!

I know practicality is not at the top of the list (or shouldn't be) when looking at the two cars but practicality in regards to having more room for passengers, (probably) being a bit cheaper to run and being easier to drive, the RS wins.

Gibbo, which has more power? I believe you've driven both?

Power is Mustang 410BHP versus 345BHP.
The RS should be quicker to 60 due to traction, the Mustang is quicker to 100 and beyond 100 the Mustang is gone, though if you want to go crazy beyond 155mph the RS will be coming back as then your in the Mustangs overdrive (6th) which is terrible for acceleration on stock power. Roll performance the Mustang wins. Twisty road in the dry they are both very good but the RS is easier for sure, in the wet RS all day long!

Mustang feels nice inside, materials feel nicer, seats are comfier and seating position is just better. Focus is dull and boring inside but is actually put together OK, I was not much for the seating position however it feels well high, I had the seat as low as possible and still felt like I was on top of the car. To be honest the RS is a great car amongst the other new cars available, but sorry to RS owners, my EVO X was simply a better car, it handled better and was even more practical and I even prefer looks of the EVO and they are very rare sights on the road. Seeing several RS everyday, Mustangs are still a rare sight as it seems most have being purchased to be garage queens in typical Mustang fashion.

For me starting the RS was well like starting any other car, it did not feel special. The Mustang simply has a real special feel to it and starting it and that V8 springs into life. But some people get this and some do not. :)

The Mustang also gets great attention from all kinds of people and its positive attention, even today there were some people in our showroom asking the staff if someone here owned it and if they did would they mind starting it up. Of course I obliged, never need to give me an excuse to go and do some revs. :D

Mustang, because Mustang. :p

However if it were 2.3 Mustang vs 2.3 Focus RS, I'd take the RS.

Nice answer, thanks :)

I guess one of the RS's biggest problems, is its still just a Focus. Don't get me wrong, I like Focus's a lot, nice cars to drive, usually reliable, fairly well built, but its still JUST a nice car.

The Mustang has that special something about it, you see a Mustang and say "wow! very very nice" :) I see a new Focus RS and say, "nice, I wish I owned it" but I say that about lots of cars.

You got it spot on. The Focus RS appeals to a very select audience, the Mustang has wide appeal and is much loved in that regard.

The people who I showed it too today were amazed, when I opened the door they were like OMG the interior is bloody gorgeous, is it a Ford? The car they arrived in was an A6 Avant estate, brand new so pretty good comment really, I think it is the look and style that grabs people, it looks great, but on closer inspection some of the plastics are nasty.

Externally they were absolutely blown away, it was like they were looking and talking about something worth a fortune and when I started it up, the women screamed and the man just was like now we are talking, proper old school V8 at which point he was like wow its a manual too and the questions then came how fast does it go, what is the power.

It was at this point what do they cost 50-60k? mmmmm no nearly half that! At which point the shock on their face and his wife saying, DON'T YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, you cannot afford to fuel it. :D

Out of the two cars the Mustang every time, as undoubtedly good as the Focus RS is, I can't help thinking "what a tit" every time I see one! :o :D

Theres a new black eco boost around town here, needless to say, I feel embarrassed for him when we cross paths :(

For me only one 4 pot engine sounds good, Vtec and only when they do not have stupid booming exhaust.

My S2000 sounded incredible with its custom exhaust, my wording was race bike, lovely sound.

But every other 4 pot I have owned and driven I just cannot be doing with the noise.

I all the sound from all 6 cylinder cars, think the 350Z sounds lovely, think that is a V6. Love the sound of a BMW i6 and of course Porsche Flat 6 sounds incredible.

But for V8 and V10 will always be at the top, particular the V10 in the M5, sounds broken at idle but oh my at full chat they sound like an older F1 car, glorious and when it comes to V8's they all sound different but they all sound damn good whether its one in a truck/pickup or an artificial sounding Audi or just a genuine V8 muscle.

Neither? Why would it be just between these two?
What new car would you recommend to buy that around the same price range (about 35k) as a Mustang & Focus RS ?

Fox would have you get the BMW 550I. If you lacked the funds he would tell you to save until the funds were available to buy.... The BMW 550I.
