Firefox has 13 tabs open, Safari (version 3.2.1) has just one tab.

The Mac has been running for five days, sleeping at night.

Is it too much to ask for programs without memory leaks?

have you cleaned caches out etc etc on both to make it a fair test?

Who knows.. "empty RAM is wasted RAM" - it could just be aggressively caching everything it has come across.

Then again, I don't trust them that much, given the frequency MobileSafari crashes on the platform they have complete control over!

Here's mine with 2 tabs open. Maybe webkit with safari 4 is different!?

It seems to spike if you ever use any flash. I close it every now and again because it's been known to go up to around 600MB. It's not really a huge issue to restart it.
