MW2 Cheat Detected WTF?

they didnt ban mw2config. i for one use it all the time with no consequence

it only modifies the games configuration files, not a vac offence.

vac doesnt do false positives, and on the very rare occasions they do, they sort it out.

open a steam support ticket if you honestly havent cheated, they will check it for you

Well it did... but they always reverted them if it was a glitch in the system.

This is my personal favourite message from the steam forums

"I dont know what to do. I paid 70 Euros for MW2 (Stimulus&Resurgence) and now Im banned for no reason. Nice Valve. Im willing to let you scan my computer for any cheat at all."

Its amazing how many suckers there are out there willing to not only waste 70e on MW2 + overpriced packs but to then cheat and risk it all.

Edit: Oh and the steam moderator replies in that thread are epic.

what cheat protection does mw2 use? i know punkbuster infamously detected anything that does an onscreen display like fraps fps counter as "altered memory" and kicked you thinking it was a trainer

VAC matches hacks with things in its database, if its not in the database, its not bannable, if it is in the database, you get inevitably get banned.

The only downside with the system is it doesn't have enough in it... well that and the fact paid-up hacks would be impossible to stop, shortly after its discovered to be banning they'd change it.

So if you get banned in one game, you get banned from all the games in your Steam account?! :o

I've spent about £800 on my account over the years. It seems very conceivable that I could use a mod for a single player game, go to play online and then have every game in my account permanently lose mulitplayer functionality? If this is the case then I'll be selling my account pronto. :(

I wish... its annoying when you come across people with VAC bans on record and know full well they are hacking now too.

VAC bans you from VAC secured servers for the game (or was it engine?) you got banned on. Doesn't ban your account in any way.

Thank **** for that then! :D

Can see the appeal if it really only ever banned deliberate cheaters. But I can potentially see innocent people getting caught out with mods after reading this topic and the one at Steam.

No you get banned from an engine.

(hack in a source game get banned in all source games, get banned in mw2 it's only mw2) but only on vac servers.

You're saying you're likely to hack online?

Then lets hope you do get banned.

mods =/= hacks.

unles you happen to use mods o nyour sp game that give enemies bright pink skins etc also all sp trainers will not work online or affect the mp portion of a game.

You're either an inexperienced gamer or a muppet. :p

Seriously, you cannot differentiate between mods and hacks?

Take the Age of Empires/Mythology games for instance. The default user interface is a bit ****ty to say the least. You can freely download alternatives made by indie programmers to enhance your experience and rest assured you won't be banned. Download a cheat like a resign hack however and you will probably get banned.

So yeah, there is a difference between a mod and a hack.

Unless you VAC secure your offline game then cheat on it which would be pretty dumb :p

A UI mod really isn't the same as a hack... if however your new flashy UI was showing things you shouldn't have access to, like your enemies resources/positions, THEN it would be a hack.

I said mods aren't hacks but anything you use in single player that could get you banned would not be a mod, ie not a normal skin nicer sounds a better gui, it would be something like bright piknk skins 10ft long weapon models etc.

The point at which a mod gives you a clear unfair advantage over other players on-line it becomes a hack in it's colloquial sense.

That's what i said....
