MX-5 opinions

I think MX-5s are fantastic cars. My mother let me drive hers for roughly a year before she and my old man moved to Ireland. We agreed that when I finish my training and start my profession for proper I'll be buying the car off her (she's retired now, and hasn't got much use for it). A year is going to be a long time to wait though! :( Mum got the car for a mere £1250;

I haven't driven many cars, and the few I have, are all bog-standard generic ones such as Clios, Escorts, Fiestas, Golfs, and so on. So it probably doesn't mean much when I say this car has sublime handling and feel. It's not bad for what's supposed to be a cheap everyman sports car.

Like KNiVES above, coming from fairly generic cars such as Fiesta's, Focuses etc. they are really great to drive. My younger brother owns a 98 MK2 1.6i and was kind enough to put me on the insurance. I really enjoy driving it, i love the feeling of low weight and inertia, such crisp and direct responses. Good feeling through the steering, although PAS makes the steering too light for my tastes. Engine revs nicely, nippy, but not all that quick.

I will say that i do find the road and wind noise intrusive on the motorway though. Fine below 70, but above that the noise seems to grow exponentially !

Forget about the image and buy one. So much for so little money.

Yup, the MX5 is all about point-and-squirt A and B road madness. With the roof up I find the exhaust and road noise is annoying at anything above about 60, but with the roof down I just want to go faster :D

must get a new sig done with the MX5 and the GSX600F in it

Hehe. Yeah, it's definitely nicer with the top down, such a great feeling. I just wish the decent roads around here weren't so congested all the time. Every time i take the "scenic route" there are a stream of cars driving comfortably under the speed limit, and in the 1.6 you need a pretty good run up to be able overtake safely !

edit: in response to phoen1x (damn you guys post too fast, 3 responses before i finished writing this !)

:D

I love that about the York area, so much choice of backroads, can always find a few that are completely empty. Usually more tricky up around Castle Howard, but the whole area north of York and East of the a59/a19 is a web of pure fun :)
