The 1.6 is revvier but is down on power in a car that already needs more power. I personally wouldn't bother.

Watch out for the 90bhp 1.6s too, which are even worse.

Agreed. No 1.8 owner would ever go back to a 1.6, its only ever the people who can't afford a 1.8 who cherp on about the 1.6 being just as good, trying to justify the purchase. You would regret having the 1.6.

Yes, I do know of some poor chap who bought a supposed 1.8iS that was in fact a 1.6i 90bhp in a mk2 body. Do not be fooled by forged V5's.

He just now admitted it turns out his is a 1.8iS after all and it probably does have an LSD after all. A stellar turn out for truth and dignity all round I think.

What would you anticipate on paying for a very tidy Mk2.5 1.8i S. It seems the best of the bunch?

In the Mk2.5 I think the Icon is the best of the bunch - based on the iS with a number of extra goodies and the best colours IIRC.

Yup, although iirc the turbo and SC kits might not be as easily as compatible, maybe they are, I have no idea.

If I lost mine tomorrow and only had replacement money equal to its value, I would get a mk2.5 1.8iS almost certainly. It's not worth me upgrading mine to a mk2.5 but the next level in terms of everything is in another league, I've driven a couple of S2k's recently and the money it would cost to change just doesn't seem worth it either.
