MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

I found T1Rs to be hugely overrated and they ruined the handling when I had the misfortune of borrowing a set of my mates wheels that were wrapped in a set of them. They made my car feel like it was driving on jelly and wet performance is just dire.

To those who say they're good, what are you comparing them too? Surely mismatched linglongs or something equally as poor? If you're running 15s then tyres are dirt cheap anyways. I only paid £70 a corner for my AD08Rs so why skimp and get rubbish.

t1r are ****, period, they were mediocre when they came out 12 years ago. mate has just put on the new GY excellence performance, they're hilariously grippy but my god they're wobbly! Perfect for bumpy wet roads that'll be around for the next few months. £45 on TyreLeader!

I found that the T1-Rs had incredible grip, but yes, they had a slightly squirmy feeling to them, and tended to tramline as they wore. I went to CSC3s after the T1-RS - grip wasn't quite as good, although still good, and they felt a bit more responsive and confident.

130bhp is awful for a 'sports car' . Most Fiesta's with that 1L eco boost have 125bhp these days.

He said 130bhp per tonne. Going by Parkers, the Fiesta is 112BHP/tonne.

But that aside, there's a lot more to a "sports car" than big power output, making comparisons of power figures a bit pointless. Even if a 1.0 litre shopping trolley could match it's power output, which one do you think would provide the most engaging and "sporty" drive?

A 335bhp, 620kg orange bathtub. I have successfully made an MX5 even less practical :D

Winner.

...or even just the dry weather. I used to enjoy driving mine with the roof down when it was barely above freezing - hat, scarf, gloves, heated seats on and the heaters full blast, fantastic fun :)

The character of the car was so much better with the roof down - with it up, you just get lots of wind and road noise and it felt very claustrophobic...with the roof down, it's much more liberating. Enjoy :)

Does anyone know which one goes in the top of the caliper and which one in the bottom? Also does the rubber bit at the top of the picture go over the bottom thinner slider?

Yes, the rubber sleeve should fit over that recess of the second pin. Think it just acts as a damper. Design looks similar to the slider pins in my old NC and the GT86, in that just one of the pins has the rubber bit.

As for which one goes where, I'm not sure. It's possible it doesn't matter, but perhaps someone else will know better.
